(As Above So Below)
10.30 - 1.30 pm Berkhamsted, Herts, UK
Using weight to your advantage, trusting the floor, understanding sequence.
I am very happy to be back with a brand new workshop- and one of the most integral aspects of the Feldenkrais work..
Grounding is something that often appears as an instruction in dance, and meditation. “Ground yourself.” Or “Ground your energy” is something I hear all the time.. But how? Without a clarity of understanding exactly how to do that physically it remains a mystery or a frustration. Without an experience of what it actually feels like in the body we don’t know what to look for..
It seems so ephemeral but actually once you know how it’s very simple, very real, and very easy to find at any moment, whatever the situation. Even when trusting ourselves or another is hard to do, we can learn to trust the floor.
It is an essential quality not only in good movement but in being able to connect to yourself, to the world around you, and to others. How we think of weight becomes a different story when we understand how to use the floor. It’s as vital for elite athletes and dancers as it is for babies and the elderly. Walking, running and daily activities take on an easy quality not found before, and we can begin to think our way out of movement difficulties by using these principles.
In this workshop we will use gentle movement sequences and explorations from Feldenkrais and developmental themes from JKA. You will come away with a feeling of support, release, and a clear idea how to continue the improvement at home.
Melinda combines her expertise of the Feldenkrais Method, developmental themes from JKA, with her passion and expertise of self-development, and embodied learning.
